Another excellent restaurant opened in the Soul Complex in Surfers Paradise, located on The Esplanade. Hurricane's Grill is one floor up from ground level and as you would expect it is all part-open glass frontage, so it makes the most of the stunning beach views.

It is a steakhouse style grill so expect steaks, chicken, ribs, burgers and chips and baked potatoes on the menu, as well as sides such as corncobs and steamed greens.

I had a 350g rump steak with baked potato and my boyfriend had a 350g New York steak with chips – both were $33 and we shared some corn cobs which was $12 and a garlic bread loaf which was $4.50. Price wise, I thought for a new exclusive vibe restaurant, it was very reasonable.

But was the food good? Yes the food was awesome – you really cannot beat steak and spuds done well – and portion sizes are really generous too. For everyone who ordered steak it came out just as ordered – often I find this isn't the case in many restaurants, but all the steaks were cooked to perfection.

All the food was good, on our table we had chicken dishes and burgers too and everyone was pleased with what they had. There was no room for dessert unfortunately but next time I shall certainly try to find the room.

The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, as they should be to be honest. What I really liked was even though they were super busy, you didn't feel rushed at any point. The lady didn't push to take our order, she took drinks then was happy to come back to take entrées, then the mains.

Extra little touches added to the quality of the service too such as free crayons and colouring sheet and free ice cream for every child – they also offered to bring out the kids meal ASAP so she didn't have to wait. Everything that was ordered came out in good time and nothing was forgotten, even extra drinks and sauces appeared within minutes of asking regardless of which wait staff we asked. On a table of eight that is quite impressive.

The restaurant is tastefully decorated with large lights and statement wine bottle walls. It is a huge restaurant but at no time do you feel on top of others or cramped into seats and tables. Plus the part-open glass frontage gives it an airy feel and the views over the beach are pretty special.

There is an awesome large bar area too, one side with bar stools and tables overlooking the beach and the other with large comfy chairs with a flame effect fire – slightly odd for a beach restaurant but it really adds to the already classy atmosphere.

The Soul Complex with all its new bars and restaurants is slowly becoming one of my favourite places to go on the Gold Coast and I have to admit, Surfers Paradise was always my least favourite place to dine and drink out.

I would certainly make an advanced booking as it is proving very popular and busy especially at the weekend.
