The beautiful family-owned vineyard and winery of Saltire Estate is the setting for a Scottish celebration that will leave you in awe. From the contemporary athletes showcasing their abilities and the lively dances to the food and the wine, and you’ve got yourself a great day out in the picturesque Hunter Valley.

Sporting events testing one’s strength, skill and precision include open stone put, Husafell stone carry, the caber toss, natural tones of strength and the keg toss. These traditional challenging competitions embody the spirit and historic roots of the Highland Games that are celebrated not only in Scotland but in Iceland, Canada, the USA, Australia and a multitude of other countries that the Scots emigrated to. Cheer them on to success.

Soulful tunes come from quintets and marching piping bands, whilst high-energy music accompanies both country dancing and highland dancing. Get in on the fun yourself by participating in a country dancing workshop.

The Highland Fling is certainly a highlight, where dancers in Scottish attire of kilts and dresses execute intricate footwork with precision and timing. Characterised by the dancer leaping into the air and performing a series of steps while maintaining balance and grace, this is one dance of elegance you won’t want to miss.

At the Jacobites Historic Camp, you can see the living history displayed in the clan tents that provide a rich educational experience into each clan’s heritage and ancestry, often showcasing traditional artefacts.

The young ones will love the Highland cows with their long horns and long shaggy coats, as well as the petting zoo, jumping castle, face painting and fun activities in the kids' zone (nestled between stalls).

Market stalls, food vendors and the Saltire bar for wine tasting will take care of your shopping, eating and drinking needs. Pick up some Scottish products, try some haggis or neeps and tatties as well as fair foods, and down some beverages (including those from grapes grown on the estate).

There’s plenty of seating at this event. If you prefer your own camp chairs, you can bring them. Bring your dog too, although he or she must be on a leash. Food and drinks can be brought in (with the exception of alcohol).

Entry to this captivating event is $15 per adult, $10 per concession/pensioner card holder, $5 per child (over 5 & under 18), and under 5’s free. Tickets are best purchased online .

Timings of events, venue map, transport options, etc. can be found under visitor information . So come spend a day in the vines and witness some memorable moments.
