I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

A delight for the senses,Hunter Valley Gardens is worth a visit next time you are in the Pokolbin region. We were there early in Spring, so I could only imagine how spectacular the various gardens would be later in the season.

The many walking paths wind through the ten different internationally-themed gardens. For those that find the 8kms too daunting, there is a 35-minute mini train ride. The train ride includes commentary about the garden and costs $7 for adults, $5 for children and a family ticket is (2 adults 2 children) $20. Bookings are advisable as it is very popular.

Over 30 horticulturists and garden staff maintain the 60 acres of gardens as well as constructing animatronic dinosaurs for a school holiday event. Mega Creatures is on during the NSW September school holidays and will conclude on October 8 2017. The annual Christmas Lights Spectacular will be running from November 3 2017 until January 27 2018.

The onsite cafe serves morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas and there is a large gift shop full of souvenirs and homewares. The different garden areas can be hired for functions, wedding ceremonies & photography.

There is something here for everyone, young children would enjoy the 'Storybook Garden' and the rides, whereas adults would be more appreciative of the effort that goes into creating and maintaining the gardens. It can be quite an expensive day, so keep an eye out for special deals on tickets.
