I visited the Hunter River Hotel last Sunday with some girlfriends. It's actually my local pub so I have been quite a few times. The food is always good and there is always a great atmosphere. They usually have a live band playing at the weekends. The food is pub food, albeit really nice pub food, so if you're looking for something gourmet this probably isn't for you.

On this occasion, I tried the sweet and sour pork which was delicious. The veggies were crunchy which I Iove and the pork perfectly cooked. The presentation was also excellent.

My friends tried the atlantic salmon which looked divine and the chicken snitty which I am reliably told will be ordered again.

The food wasn't expensive which for me is a big bonus to good food.

I don't have children, but they also have a big area for kids to play.

The Hotel is always busy and the staff really friendly and helpful. All in all, it's a lovely way to spend an afternoon, sitting outside, enjoying a meal, listening to live music.

I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the East Maitland area.
