Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary will be holding a 'Family Fun Day' on the Public Holiday Monday October 5th, from 10 am to 4pm. This is a special fund raising event, with all profits raised going directly to feed the animals through the long hot summer. The Sanctuary is located south of Gawler and East of Elizabeth, in Adelaide's northern suburbs. To find the venue you need to drive to One Tree Hill and continue along Humbug Scrub Road until you see the park gate.

This wildlife sanctuary has been operating since 1905. It cares for sick and injured wildlife and is also a home for birds and animals who can no longer live in the wild. Animals they care for are emus, wallabies, and kangaroos, some of which are free ranging and can come and go from the sanctuary as they please. When you visit you will also see red deer and a possum and her young. There are many types of birds also. Volunteers undertake work such as building and repairing shelters and feeding animals. A Sanctuary Manager lives onsite to oversee the running of the property.

During the day you can wander the sanctuary grounds which are natural bush lands and do some local bird watching. The kids can feed the animals and see the work the carers are doing. The work includes building shelters and enclosures and caring for sick and rehabilitating animals. The animals are more active in the morning and ten to be lethargic and dozing in the sun in the afternoon.

Come in the morning and stay for a barbeque lunch or a hot potato for the vegetarians. The food sale profits will also contribute to fundraising. An ice-cream van will be available. There will also be some market stalls for adults to wander and purchase some goodies. Games for the kids will be held, so the children are sure to have a great day out.

The efforts for the fun day will be a major fundraiser for his charity which is solely run by volunteers and with donations.
Enjoy the surrounding bush or hand feed animals. Come for the morning and stay to enjoy our barbecue or potato lunch. Games for the kids, ice cream van, stalls to browse for a bargain. This is our twice a year major fundraiser to help feed the animals for another year.

This special day would make a fabulous day out with the family over the long weekend. Perhaps a nice outing for grandparents also. Its all in a good cause so go along and help them out.
