From the second you enter Hula Bula Bar you're immersed in a tropical world of voodoos, jungles and thatch huts. The tiki bar is adorned with traditional wooden voodoos more commonly associated with the likes of bars in Bali or Hawaii.
The sounds of untouched island jungles linger throughout the bar, dimly lit with a tribal red glow. Thatch, odd lights and fake plants cover the simplistic wooden booths, making a perfect spot to catch up with groups of friends.
An explosion of tropical flavour behind the bar at Hula Bula
Hula Bula has gained notoriety for its cocktails. In particular, its Mai Tai and rum cocktails are well regarded as some of the best Perth has to offer. The cocktail offerings are truly unique and the presentation is several cuts above the rest of the crowd, Hula Bula goes to great lengths to ensure the cocktails match the theme.
If you feel a little romantic - or just want to share - Hula Bula also offers share cocktails. These are giant cocktails, one being the Mai Tai, fit to share between two to five individuals, all for a pretty reasonable price.
The other great thing about Hula Bula Bar is it's for over 21s only. That means none of that noisy base-and-cosmetic-obsessed youth generation are welcome to ruin the relaxed and laid back vibes at Hula Bula. You can still get in if you're under 21 so long as you are of the mature persuasion.
There isn't really too much in Hula Bula for beer drinkers - fair enough considering their main objective is cocktails - with just a small bar fridge stocking a few good quality beers, ciders and pre-mixed spirits. The prices for these are what you'd expect from Perth, but Fridays offer $5 beers if you must resist the colourful cocktail delights.
Hula Bula Bar is a must do for cocktail lovers and those obsessing over their last island getaway. With some of the most highly regarded drinks in Perth and a relaxed vibe well protected by entry standards, Hula Bula is a hidden gem waiting to be uncovered by adventurous spirits.
