PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HUGGA MUG CAFE HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Oh my gosh, I do love getting out and about, adventuring over a weekend - there is always something special to do and 2026 discover on the Sunshine Coast!

This weekend we had the 2018 Time Warp Festival on in Palmwoods and I was absolutely delighted to discover (despite having been reassured that there would be plenty of parking) that Palmwoods was overflowing with visitors and parking was decidedly at a premium. I just love it when little Hinterland towns are so totally abuzz with everybody keen to visit, all adding to and hopefully keeping these little economies afloat.

Last year, we chose not to have lunch in Palmwoods and purely by chance, stumbled upon Sweethearts Cafe in Eudlo , which turned out to be a better-than-average lunch experience, in far more tranquil surrounds. So this year, my choice was to do the same - have nowhere in particular in mind, but to go, wherever, we found ourselves. Does that make sense at all?

Having to take the back alleys - so to speak - to avoid the traffic congestion in and around the Time Warp Festival, we came upon Woombye, a little hinterland town that I am sure we have driven past umpteen times. Woombye's name is derived from words from the local Aboriginal language - a place (wumbai) of black snake or (wambai) black myrtle or axe handle made from black myrtle - thanks to Wikipedia, we have a selection - it's a case of 'take your pick' - no pun intended.

According to the 2006 consensus, Woombye had just over two thousand residents. Okay, I do realise it's now twelve years later, but honestly one feels as if this delightful little town could possibly have stood still in time and has managed to retain its cute and quirky personality.

As you, my readers, have surely noticed, I'm very into street art at the moment, so I was totally thrilled to discover some historically-inspired murals on walls throughout the town of Woombye, painted by a local artist, Brian Tisdal. As you can see, these timeless artworks depict life in the Hinterland way back when with exquisite finesse!

I digress 2026. onto my next very exciting find - the , an inviting, cosy little home-away-from-home, coffee shop on Blackall Street, directly opposite the Woombye Memorial Park. Do you know what the definition of a 'hug' is? To squeeze someone tightly in one's arms, typically to express affection. Well, this is the exact emotion that the inspires in visitors - the aspiration to be warmly ensconced into this very quirky little cafe 2026. coffee mug in hand!

The charming has indoor and outdoor seating arrangements - the decor successfully snug, cosy and comfy all at the same time, making visitors' choice oh-so-much-more difficult. One is tempted to choose the bean bag comfort at the fore of this charming little eatery, whilst listening to the laidback vocals of an entertainer;

or perhaps a seat inside the cosy interior, where one can savour the aromas of freshly prepared meals whilst enjoying the animated conversation around you! Or, perhaps, like us, your choice is guided by curiosity 2026. curiosity as to what could be found in the furthermost realms of a charming little cafe in Woombye.

The dog-friendly has an extensive 'All Day Menu', and my choice for lunch was the 'Smashed Avo on Sourdough' for $10 - with added chorizo an extra $3. Hubby's choice was 'Avo and Egg on Sourdough' for $10 - very affordable and priced not to break the bank! The lunches were served with our coffees of choice - lattes - one skinny and one not! I sometimes wonder about this when ordering, as I seriously suspect that lattes are always done with skim milk - how else does a barista get the milk so frothy!

Lunch was efficiently served by very helpful and friendly staff, allowing us to sit back, relax and take in the engaging surrounds of the outdoor, undercover courtyard. Our lunch choices were delicious and the portions sufficient to tide us over to dinner. All in all, our choice of having nowhere in particular in mind, but to go, wherever, we found ourselves, was the perfect choice for a Sunday.

If you've never visited Woombye or perhaps have, but for one reason or another, have never stopped off for a breakfast, lunch or even a coffee, then I would suggest a visit to the very amiable , where 'hugging, the miracle drug of the ages', is a daily advocated pre-requisite. After all, we ALL need hugs!
