When you come across a successful small family business, it comes to mind how did they first start off and what inspired them to take the plunge from an everyday worker to an owner of a business?

Hudson Brewery started in the shed of a home brewer and in 2020, Richard and Sarah Hudson took their passion and determination to the forefront by producing a good beer culminating in the best quality and greatest flavours to pass onto their customers. Not long after opening, Hudson Brewery won a Bronze Medal for Fort Lytton Lager at the 2021 Royal Queensland Food & Wine Show Beer Awards and a Silver Medal for Out of Your Mind Raspberry Sour and Fort Lytton Lager at the 2021 Australian Industry Beer Awards. The awards speak for themselves and the taste of the beer has patrons coming back for more.

Other varieties in the Hudson range include "Mr Magoo Pale Ale", "All Seeing IPA", "On Any Sunday Session Ale", "Tropical Haze Lager", "Dark Obsession Porter", Seasonal – "Out of Your Mind Mango Passion Sour" and the one I am looking forward to tasting is "Meet Your Maker Barrel Aged Imperial Stout", which is due for release in May 2022.

I came across Hudson Brewery at a work Christmas party and honestly had not known about the business before that time, however, it was obvious that locals were well aware of this hidden gem on Gibbs Street, Wynnum .

Inside the building, tables and chairs for patrons were situated close to the long bar. To the right, large stainless-steel vats are seen which contain ingredients processing brews through different stages and timeframes to produce the award-winning beers.

As well, Hudson Brewery is putting together a small Testing Crew, which will consist of loyal customers who will be invited to intimate pre-release tasting sessions. The Testing Crew will be changed every six months by way of a lottery draw of local entrants. If you would like to be part of this Crew, please subscribe to the Mailing List. Subscribing will also give you up-to-date information on Brewery Tours, New Releases and Special Events .

To see the latest offerings, go to the website for the online shop, or pop down to the Tap Room . Opening times are:

  • Thursday – 4.00pm to 8pm
  • Friday – 2.00pm to Late
  • Saturday – 12 Noon to Late
  • Sunday – 12 Noon to 8pm

  • Hudson Brewery do not sell food, however, each night a different food van is situated outside for you to purchase food and consume inside. To see which van will be onsite the day of your visit, look up Hudson's Facebook or Instagram pages. If you would like to book a table, please make a reservation on the website.

The Hudson Brewery's relaxed and friendly atmosphere is just as inviting to a newcomer as it is to a regular with heartfelt service and warm smiles. There is no better place than Wynnum on Brisbane's Bayside to set up a brewery on the industrial strip in Gibbs Street. Make your next party or a friend's get-together a visit to the Hudson Brewery.
