The HubStudio Script Reading - Double Bill / 'Fruitless' & 'The Orb'

Preview new plays and support emerging actors and producers

The HubStudio was set up 5 years ago by actor and producer Oliver Wenn to provide full-time professional actors with a creative rehearsal and practice space, as well as to create a network 'hub' with other industry creatives and producers. The HubStudio concept is the first of its kind in Sydney which also provides voice classes, corporate training and a general studio space for aspiring talent to further their acting or producing skills and experience.

Many small theatre productions have started here and moved on to bigger and better things, which is what actor and aspiring producer Ally Burnham has in mind for her comedy stage play "This Was All a Fruitless Endeavour Really". She hopes to be able to take her play to fringe festivals such as the famous Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland.

On 11 November 2016, I attended a public live staged reading of this play at 18 City Road, Chippendale. A live staged reading is akin to a play rehearsal and is a great way to preview up and coming plays for free, as well as give the wider community an opportunity to support aspiring artists and producers.

"This was all a Fruitless Endeavour Really" is a comical play with generous undertones of surreal and black comedy. Sam Glissan and Nate Gothard portray two polarising personalities trying to reach a middle ground after experiencing a series of one fruitless endeavour after another.
