Typical Gemini, with the concentration span of a gnat & not one for sitting still. My old Da used to say that "you're a long time dead". So my mantra is get busy living. Please join me for more at brizzymaysbooksandbruschettasite.wordpress.com

Even if you can't garden this nursery is good value
I've been living in the Redland City Shire, south-east of Brisbane, for over twenty years now. And you know what is amazing? The fact that I am continually stumbling upon new and interesting places to investigate.

My latest discovery ticks several of my favourite boxes.

Although no longer a gardening tragic I always appreciate the beauty of trees and greenery. Despite the depression parents instilling their mantra "if you can't eat it, don't bother growing it", I also love the colour and fragrance of flowers as well as native shrubs.

Who doesn't enjoy a meal, or even just a coffee and cake, somewhere different than at home ? No preparing, no cooking, no washing up. Are you with me here ?

Lastly, shopping.

I detest large shopping centres. I avoid them like the plague. However, I do have a weakness for purchasing different little things as gifts for those I love and putting them away until the appropriate time. This is how my Christmas shopping for December 2016 started in January.

Entrance from Redland Bay Road

Hoya Garden Plaza at 546 Redland Bay Road, Alexandra Hills, meets all these requirements.

The Hoya Nursery carries the usual necessities, such as potting mixes and a range of pesticides to ensure the green thumb stays out of trouble. There is a good range of outdoor plants as well as a large greenhouse full to the brim of healthy specimens for purchase.

Ceramic pots, water features, garden art and statues are plentiful, and I must admit to being extremely tempted to repatriate a Bonsai and a hanging basket or two.

Admiring plants is a taxing business so it was imperative to refuel at the Hoya Cafe, overlooking the nursery. This alfresco area has a definite casual vibe, and caters for breakfasts through to lunch, from lone visitors to group functions.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Wedges and Coffees sitting within a little slice of Paradise on a major thoroughfare in the suburbs.
( Hoya Garden Plaza sits between Capalaba and Victoria Point).

More substantial meals are available and I have included a menu.

Re-energised we were ready to wander through the Hoya Gift and Home Decor area.

As I have indicated the shopping is a little different to the norm and I believe that with its wide range you would find a gift to suit any man, woman or child.

There are scarves, jewellery, wind chimes, ornaments, books, baby toys, and a plethora of other delights all looking for a new home.

As I said, I've successfully started my Christmas shopping as well as my daughter's birthday present for next month. I would share with you, though she may well read this and I would hate to spoil the surprise…

Hoya Garden Plaza is one of those environments where you could lose an hour or two very easily. You don't even have to buy any plants or giftware. Browse, and relax with a cuppa whilst enjoying the greenery.

What do they say? Stop, and smell the Roses- or the Frangipanis - literally.
