Winter is here and it's that time of year that we look for rainy day activities and alternatives if you're not a big skiier/snowboarder.

If you're looking for a daytrip for a little snow play, Mount Baw Baw is about a 3 hour drive away from the CBD.

In addition to the usual tobogganing, you can book yourself a husky sled tour! The huskies are mostly rescue dogs and are super friendly. When we visited, there was just one which had a 'nervous' collar.

It's a gorgeous view sledding through the snow and meeting all the rescues. Our trip was a little stop and start as many of them seemed to be in a sniffing mood. Apparently there had been a female stray lurking around hence all the sniffing.

But the snowy forest was magical with the huskies adding to the scenery, almost straight out of a movie.

My favourite part though was playing with them afterwards! I made a new friend named Koda (below) who was super friendly, posing for photos and kissing my face!

Before all the fun, we went to grab something to eat from the bistro and some coffee to warm us up.

We also had a go at some tobogganing runs later on and we eventually stopped when we were sick of climbing back up the hill.

It's a great little day escape if you're open to driving for 3 hours each way. Make sure you have snow chains because there are people checking cars on your way up and dress warmly.

The company also runs the tours at several other locations in Victoria, click here to see more.
