Howard Arkley (and friends...) at Tarrawarra Museum of Art
The
Howard Arkley exhibition at
Tarrawarra Museum of Modern Art provides a glimpse into the mind and inspiration of a unique Australian artist.
Howard Arkley (and friends…) is a collection of over 60 paintings, some of which have never been shown before, in a cohesive display of the different periods of Arkley's art complete with the soundtrack for each one.
This thoughtfully curated exhibition allows the viewer to experience Arkley's art and the music that inspired it by donning a headset in each of the rooms. It adds a dimension not usually provided which gives an even greater insight into the genius of the artist.
His mastery of the airbrush and spray paint was what initially brought him into the Australian consciousness but he was so much more than just the guy who painted the cream brick veneers.
Arkley was a friend and mentor to many, and the resulting work by the 'friends' of the exhibition title are in evidence on the walls of Tarrawarra. The beautiful
Yarra Valley setting, café and winery combined with its proximity to Melbourne (
#onehourfrommelbourne ) makes Howard Arkley (and friends…) the perfect day out this summer.
