Gotta be in it to win it
Admit it. You clicked on this page because you're a cheapskate. Your ears prick up at the word free. Even if it's something you don't need, you'll take it with a grin bigger than the moon.

It's okay. Everybody is the same. It's basic human nature to desire 'stuff'. When I was around five years of age, I can recall winning a colouring competition. The prize was an apple curler. I hated apples when I was five years old. But I showed off that apple curler like it was my own child. All because I won it for free.

If you're craving some giveaways, this is the list for you. There are always competitions or opportunities to get free stuff - you just need to know where to look.

Radio competitions

Commercial radio stations are always handing out free things. The peak times to be listening to the radio are 6:30-9:30am, and 4-6pm. Usually, the major competitions take place during these hours. However, it's good to listen during the day or night also.

The trick is having the station's number on speed dial so you can call through in a heartbeat if need be.

Hit107's number to call is 13 10 60. Look at their competition page to see what's on offer at the moment.

Nova 919 also have a range of competitions. If the specific competition requires you to call in, they can be reached on 13 24 10.

Mix 102.3 similarly love to entice viewers with giveaways. To know when to listen and what to do, see their competition details.

891 ABC Adelaide usually don't give away quite as much, or the prizes aren't quite as great as the above stations. However, they also have less people entering, so you've got a greater chance of winning. Listen along if you want to hear about opportunities.

Fresh 92.7 are a community radio, so they have slightly less money to throw around to viewers. But, if you become a FreshMate member, you can gain exclusive access to competitions.

Television competitions

If you're not a fan of radio, then you might prefer television competitions.

All of Channel 7's current competitions can be found on their Yahoo website. It appears that the show which gives away the most is Sunrise. Just that one show alone usually has four or more comps going at once.

Information of what is up for grabs from Channel 9 is listed on this website. In order to win, you must read the guidelines and it is usually necessary to watch certain shows to get code words.

Channel 10 have a great variety of freebies - from money giveaways, to holidays, to event tickets, and more. This page highlights exactly what you can win.

Competition websites

Believe it or not, there are some websites out there that are designed specifically to show you competitions. It's very important that you only use legitimate websites, and don't get caught up in scams.

University open days

If you've ever attended a university open day, you'll know that they're a haven for free giveaways. There are tents everywhere that will essentially force free things into your hands. Usually, you'll leave with pens, diaries, discount vouchers for local attractions, and other odd bits and pieces.

The three universities in South Australia are the University of South Australia, Adelaide University, and Flinders University. The open days are typically around August, so if you check their website around this time, you will know the date to head into a campus.

If you come in one of the top two teams at the end of the quiz, you can win some great prizes. Some of them include free drinks from the bar, meal vouchers, and wine bottles. Even if you aren't the smartest cookie in the jar, there are other random giveaways during the nights.

Bingo is a fun way to potentially win some cash or prizes. This list has a number of suburban locations where Bingo is played in South Australia. There are bingo events happening in Marion, Regency Park, Bedford, Glenelg, and Wingfield.
