I want to say straight up, this movie fulfilled all my expectations. It does not disappoint as a sequel and it's as exciting and as well made as the original, complete with the appearance of a long lost mother. I ended up getting lucky by chance, viewing it at Waverley Cinema, days before it was released mainstream.
Toothless helping Hiccup with naming new territories they are discovering and mapping
Hiccup and his best friend and dragon Toothless are all grown up. With Vikings and dragons of Berk living in harmony, the world has become easier to explore and access. It is during one of these mapping and exploring missions that Hiccup discovers a darker world emerging, a threat to his society.
Eret the dragon trapper who works for Drago Bludvist
Moving in closer, they encounter Eret who is trapping dragons for Drago Bludvist ~ an evil man who wants to conquer and enslave all the dragons and be the sole ruler of all. Eret captures Hiccup and blames him for destroying his fort. They, however, are saved and Hiccup flies back to warn his father Stoick the Vast.
Stoick tells Hiccup he has met Drago in the past and that the man is pure evil. Hiccup refuses to believe his father and holds fast to his belief that with face to face communication, he can make Drago see the benefits of living in harmony with dragons. He flies back to achieve this purpose when he is captured by Valka who turns out to be Hiccup's mother.
Mother and son go head to head, each one not knowing whom the other is.
When Stoic comes looking for Hiccup and finds Valka with their son, the years just fly past for him, all is forgiven and forgotten and all he sees before him is the one true love of his life. Together as a family they go about planning a way to save their world.
