How to Make the Perfect Breakfast in Bed

If there's one thing in life that I cannot get enough of, it's breakfast. Oats for breakfast, pancakes for lunch, scrambled eggs for dinner. I enjoy it any time of the day. Breakfast makes me feel warm and cosy and satisfied and every other good word I can think of.

I enjoy it outdoors by the river, on the verandah, on the run, and on a boat. I just like it. But there is an ultimate. And that ultimate breakfast, is in the place that we all know and love. Bed.

What you'll want to do, is read on friends. Because I am going to give you some tips and hints on making the perfect breakfast in bed. Generally this is best made for someone else, but heck if you want to do it for yourself, I will not stop you. No-one gets in the way of the ultimate breakfast.

1. Remember, it's a surprise:

One of the hardest things is getting out of bed without waking the person that you are making the breakfast for. That is, if you share the same bed. The best thing to do is to make an excuse the night before. Tell them that you're getting up early to go to the gym, or to go to work early.

If you get a 'yeah right' response and this is completely unbelievable, then just pretend you can't sleep and that you're going to watch some TV. Or, if you wake them up when you rise, just tell them "You're just dreaming, go back to sleep".

Now, you'll want to have everything that you need ready and waiting for you when you get in to the kitchen. This way, you cut down the time it's going to take to prepare your breakfast, and you're less likely to be caught in the act.

I assume that you love the person that you are making this ultimate breakfast for, right? Maybe a parter, or parent. So why not keep in theme with your breakfast?

You can really make a heart shape out of so many foods. It looks cute and it's sweet and it's a little different to whacking some toast on a plate and serving it up.

You could go with some of these, (strange, but true) but here's what I suggest.

Thanks to Martha Stewart, this recipe should get you a few extra brownie points.

A side of bacon looks nice, and don't forget a hot pot of tea or coffee, orange juice, or add a little class with a glass of champagne. And don't forget another side of museli or yogurt topped with berries. The more the better, Or should I say, the more the berrier. This is ultimate remember.

2. The Breakfast Tray:

You want this to be sturdy, with legs on either side as to not cause any spillage. How you present your breakfast is one of the most important parts in your ultimate breakfast in bed. I like to revolve the look of the tray around the interests of the person I am making it for.

For example, if your partner is a pilot, you might want to purchase a little toy plane to put on their breakfast tray. And if it's their birthday, you might want to walk in with a helium plane balloon wrapped around your wrist. Cue 'Aww'.

For the ladies, you'll want flowers on the tray. Either in a vase, or a single rose placed next to the meal. Place some coloured napkins under the plate to fill the space, and your breakfast tray is almost complete.

3. The Card:

Be it their birthday or not, a card with some nice words always completes the tray nicely. It's always good to let someone know how special they are to you, so make sure you include one. Making it yourself will probably get you a couple of extra brownie points because it's totally sweet.

I like to make my own because it's fun, and because my stick people drawings are always quite awesome. The card could eventually be put up on eBay and sold for a nice amount.

So if you haven't done something sweet for that special someone for a while, or want a new pair of shoes, why not butter them up with this ultimate breakfast in bed.
