When a baby shower event comes up almost any host will scramble all over the internet looking for good ideas. Well, what would you do if you found an article that had a bunch of really good ones? Would you use them? I hope so, because you have found one!
Let's start with the invitations. While reading this please keep in mind that most new born babies go through 10-14 diapers every day. Adding that up...let's just say that the new parents will need a lot of diapers! If you can get as many diapers at the baby shower for them as you can, that would be extremely helpful for the parents. So, the first idea is having a raffle. Not just any raffle, though. In this raffle one ticket is equal to one box of diapers. The amount of boxes of diapers they bring, is the amount of tickets they will get. Make sure that you let them know ahead of time, perhaps in the invitation. Note: If the family lives out of state and has to take a plane, giving them a bunch of diapers will probably NOT work.
Next, once all the invitations are out you need to think of good foods, desserts, decorations, games, etc. If this shower is at a restaurant, then you can relax, a little. If it's at your house, then it's time to get your brain going!
It is always helpful to ask guests to bring things, but if they want an idea of what they should bring, or if you would like a few ideas, then here you go: for food: fried chicken is always a favorite, as well as finger sandwiches, and soups. If you're having the shower at your home then, you can have it catered to you. Good sides are: fruits and veggies, cheese and crackers, chips, anything that is a finger food really. Nice drinks to have are: soda pop, coffee, juice boxes, fruit punch, tea, water, and alcoholic beverages. Desserts are a very big part of the shower and thankfully are the easiest to come up with. You will definitely need a cake, or maybe two. Other things that you could have, but are definitely not needed are: brownies, cookies, pastries, fondu, cake pops, chocolate strawberries, truffles, etc.
When planning baby showers it's always cool to have a theme. An example would be a jungle theme. You could buy a monkey, elephant, giraffe, or any other jungle animal poster and put then the walls. You could go to Build a Bear and stuff a cuddly monkey stuffed animal, to give to the baby. You could buy cool streamers, balloons, anything elegant will work. When you're thinking about the design for the cake, you could consider having a set up for your cake. Other themes that you could do that are good for boys, girls, or either are: Curious George, Mickie and Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, rubber duckies, princesses (if they're having a girl), trains, trucks, cars (if they're having a boy). If you decide to go to a party store and look through the aisles. You name it and you could do it!
Now it's time to talk about games. Games are the best icebreakers. Some ideas are giving everyone a piece of paper, a pencil, a time limit, and a letter of the alphabet. The letter can be any letter you choose. They have to think of as many baby names as they can that start with that letter. Anywhere between 30 seconds and 3 minutes usually works best. Another game is giving them a paper plate and watching them draw a picture of a baby on it. Here's where it gets hard, they have to do it on their heads! When their done they have to see who drew the best baby! In addition, there is, instead of pin the tail on the donkey, pin the baby on the mommy! Find a picture of a pregnant woman, blow up the belly, and print it. Then, print out pictures of little babies. You have got yourself a game!
For party favors you need to find something memorable and sweet for a happy ending to the shower. Some fun ideas are sugar cookies shaped as baby feet, baby bottles, baby buggies, and other cute baby products.
There are so many things that you could do, just make sure that you choose the right ones for the special occasion that you're hosting and the expecting mother! I hope you enjoy!
