Weekends is a light at the end of the weekday tunnel, a couple of days when we try to accomplish everything we failed to do during the week. The key to a successful weekend is a dedication to one single thing. Whether it is socializing or having a decent rest, it should be the only thing on your list. Now, even though not very ambitious, those we can call successful weekends. However, a mega-successful weekend is the one when you finally grab that clutter bull by the horns and find yourself in a tidy and organized home on a Sunday evening.

Plan the grab

This is the easy part where you make the list of all the rooms and try to evaluate how much time will each of them take to declutter. Some rooms will take much less, but usually, it takes two hours at most per room. Difficulties arise when you lose focus and get sucked in the sideways of decluttering, such as staring at the old photo albums or trying out some skinny jeans from ages ago. Limit yourself and stay focused on the goal, that way you will simply have to finish by the time you've planned. You should maybe try Time Planner: Tasks & Schedule app for your phone to keep your time, schedules and plans within the reach of your hand .

Get the supplies

To make sure that cleaning up goes uninterrupted, supply yourself with some trash bags and empty boxes. If you can't get them from friends or neighbours for free, try to get them as cheap as possible. Observe the progress while they get filled up and enjoy the process. You might even play some of your favourite music while working, just make sure you don't perform a complete concert with an empty can as your microphone.

Make a choice on the spot

Mark the bags for the ''goes'' pile, then go through every little thing in a room and make a simple decision whether the thing stays or goes . If in doubt, think when was the last time you used it, or when in future you might use it again. Be strict when stumbling upon items of no practical use and ask yourself if those hold some significant value, or you're just holding on to them for no good reason. Show no mercy, for they have survived long enough. Every now and then you'll come across at some item that you will hesitate to throw away. It's ok, put it aside to a ''maybe'' pile.

Deal with the piles

Every pile of clutter junk is someone else's treasure. Try to remember that when sorting out the stuff that you have decisively discarded, then act coordinately. Divide the ''goes'' pile to smaller groups since some of the things are actual junk (of which many are recyclable), while others are worth donating or selling. Dealing with the ''maybe'' pile may be much easier than you though. Since there is probably a good reason for not letting go of, a great option for items like these would be storing them elsewhere.
Tip: If you want to be fashionably sustainable, maybe you should consider sustainability program of H&M in Melbourne or Sydney .

Consider a storage

This is quite useful and neat solution when it comes to disposing of non-essential items from your home since that way you can optimise your living space, while still getting to keep the belongings. Storage unit doesn't come handy only for the ''maybe'' piles, but also for disposing of the seasonal items such as winter or summer clothes, sporting gear, holiday decoration etc. When storing some things that might be used often, the best thing to do is finding a storage facility close to your home, for example if you live in Falcon you should find an affordable selfstorage in Perth . Besides the location and the size of the storage unit, features like climate control and security are important factors to consider when choosing a storage facility.

Triumph and maintain

Assuming that all the work is done, sit back on a Sunday evening a take a good look at your freshly decluttered home. Before you start to celebrate, understand that this is not a permanent state of your home since it will require continuous maintenance . We are the ones to blame for cluttering our living spaces. It is us, who over a time, with our consumer habits and lack of concentration gradually accumulate piles of stuff that suffocate our homes. Change of perspective and some discipline should come into play now since this is not a thing to be nonchalant about. Change your habits and do not buy stuff unless you really need them. Be strict, do not get attached to things and go minimal.

Final word

Even though you can imagine far better ways to spend your weekends, you should make time for a venture like this. Since it is a project that is rarely done, make sure to do it as soon as possible. The spectacular feeling of accomplishment afterward will make up for all that's been missed. After a thorough clean up like this, with a clear conscience, you'll be able to relax and to plan fun and social weekends in the months that come.
