your relationships with others. Although it's important to love yourself regardless of where you live or where you go, it's especially important in a tough city like NYC where your spirit can get quickly crushed if you're not careful. In January during Self-Love Month, get ready to learn to adore the person you are from the inside, out.

Visit Babeland

One of the ways to celebrate Self-love month is to pay a visit to Babeland in NYC. They're not your typical sex shop; although you can pick up a few items for yourself, they also host various events and workshops that provide information by sex educators. Check their website for up-to-date information on the latest going on at Babeland.

Discover new reading material

A great way to celebrate Self-love Month is to read inspirational books, blogs and other reading material on a daily basis that's going to help you feel better about yourself and lift your spirits. Some of my favorite websites are Life Optimizer, Tiny Buddha, The Daily Love, The Positivity Blog and Zen Habits. Sign up for their email or feed so you can find out when they put up their latest posts.

Buy yourself something you've been wanting

We're often so focused on taking care of others that we forget to focus on ourselves. During Self-love Month in January, buy yourself something you've been wanting for awhile. One option is to buy one significant gift such as a piece of jewelry; another is to purchase one smaller gift for yourself each week. Even if it's something as simple as getting your hair cut and styled for a night out, realize that you're worth spoiling yourself.

Make a day of indulgence

During Self-love month in January, take at least one full day and do nothing but indulge in things all for yourself. Stay in your pajamas all day, watch movies, order take out, have your favorite dessert. Loving yourself is also about feeling good and enjoying the simple pleasures; a full day devoted to the simple things you adore is a great way to spend your time.

Look in the mirror

Every day, even twice a day, look at yourself in the mirror and just compliment yourself. Forget about putting yourself down and criticizing yourself; take a look at everything that's right. Tell yourself how beautiful you look whether you're in clothes or you're naked, how great your hair looks, even how flawless your makeup is applied. When you focus more on everything that's great about yourself, that's when you really start to love yourself more.

Give up smoking

Everyone already knows that smoking isn't good for you, and one of the best ways to show love for yourself is to give up smoking. There are already many places around NYC where you can't smoke, the latest of which are train platforms, so it's likely going to help with the process especially if you frequent these places on a daily basis. If you need help quitting in New York, call the New York State Smokers' Quitline.

Start exercising more

Exercising can help you get fit and healthy and can improve your self confidence, all of which can improve your love for yourself. There are a variety of gyms across the city you can join, but there are other options if you want something a bit different. You can join a boxing club, take dancing lessons at Broadway Dance Center, or spend your time around Chelsea Piers.

Although January is Self-love month, it's a good way to get yourself started on doing more for yourself for the rest of the year. Make 2012 the year you focus more on making yourself happy and loving who you are.
