Almost everyone has snacks in their kitchen, but what many may not know is that there's an entire month devoted to those types of foods. It's no surprise considering how popular they are and how
many varieties of them there are. February is National Snack Food Month, so whether you want to eat healthier snacks or are looking for different types, there are plenty of ways to celebrate.

Have a snack food potluck

One of the best ways to celebrate National Snack Food Month in February is to have a snack food potluck. Invite a bunch of family and friends over and ask each person to bring a little-known snack food. For example, instead of someone bringing standard potato chips, ask that they bring blue potato chips. It gives yourself and your guests a chance to learn about different snack foods they may have never had before.

Cut back on unhealthy snacks

If you're someone who has a slight obsession with unhealthy snacks, consider National Snack Food Month in February your push to start eating more healthy snack foods. Start making small cutbacks; if you usually eat one unhealthy snack food a day, cut out eating them three days a week. Each week after, cut down one more day. You'd be surprised how much better your body can feel once you start eating better.

Try new snack foods

Many have a habit of grabbing the same snack foods whenever they want something sweet or salty. If you usually grab chips when you have a craving for something salty, consider cashews or whole grain crackers. Instead of reaching for candy when you want something sweet, opt for fruit. Chocolate fans can go for dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate. Even if you've never had the different snack foods before, give them a try before you pass up on them.

Learn new recipes

Should you prefer to make snacks at home rather than purchase them, there are quite a few you can try whether you're into sweet, salty or a mix of both. Some recipes to consider trying include a Cracker Snack Mix , Eggplant Snack Sticks , Chocolate Yogurt Snack Cakes , Turkey Taco Cups , Peanut Butter Protein Balls , and Zucchini Snack Pizzas . There are so many to try you'll have one to choose for every day of National Snack Food Month in February.

Surprise friends with snack gifts

Chances are you know someone who could use a little pick-me-up or a sweet gesture. Grab their favorite snack or make it homemade, then send it or drop it off. The recipient will appreciate that you went out of your way to do something nice without having to or needing a special occasion.

By the end of February, you could end up finding snacks you never knew existed, making new recipes you adore and eating healthier than ever before. If there's any changes you've ever wanted to make in the way you eat snacks, National Snack Food Month is the perfect opportunity to do it.
