Summer is all about getting outdoors, and going on a picnic is one of the best ways to do it. July is National Picnic Month, so it's the perfect opportunity to go on a picnic if you haven't already. NYC

has plenty of parks to visit, and more than enough places to get delicious food, so pack up your basket, grab a blanket and get yourself ready to head out for a picnic.

No list about NYC parks would be complete unless Central Park was on it. Located on 5th Avenue and running from 59th Street to 110th Street, it's a beautiful park consisting of bridges, fountains, sculptures, a zoo, a playground and more. There's over 250 acres of lawns to picnic on, so there's certainly no shortage of places to stretch out and enjoy the sun. Another one of the best parks is The High Line, which has an entrance at Gansevoort Street and Washington Street with additional entrances every few blocks up to West 30th Street and over to 11th Avenue. The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Prospect Park in Brooklyn is huge at 585 acres. There's birding, running, horseback riding, boat tours and even more. Barbecuing is allowed, but only in certain areas.

For more information on other parks in your area and throughout NYC, please visit the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation website.

Picnic Basket Delivery

Those who want to plan a picnic but don't have the time to do so, or aren't sure what to pack, there's That Picnic Place, which is a picnic basket delivery service in NYC. There's a variety of picnic basket options to choose from as well as the option to build your own. Prices start at $60 and vary depending on the basket choice. Some of the food and beverage options include a Lemon Chicken sandwich or wrap, Gruyere Cheese sandwich or wrap, Pasta a la Vodka, Spicy Thai Chicken Salad, chips, wine, champagne, water, soda, fruit cup, Death by Chocolate cake and Pecan Pie. For more information on picnic basket options, please visit their website.

Buying a picnic basket

Those who want to buy a picnic basket and put it together themselves will have luck buying it from Amazon or eBay. There's a huge variety to choose from including completely empty baskets and those that come with a service for 2 or more. If you need it quickly, it's typically possible to request rush delivery.

Should you want to prepare the picnic basket and food yourself, you're going to need a place to find everything. Fairway has several stores located throughout NYC and offers a variety of picnic items whether you prefer sandwiches or sushi. Another option is Whole Foods, which also has several locations throughout NYC. They carry natural and organic foods and have everything you could want for a picnic.

Now that you have everything you need to celebrate National Picnic Month in July, all that's left is to wait for a nice day in NYC where you won't get drenched or melt in the hot temperatures.
