He won a radio talent competition in 1935 as part of The Hoboken Four and was discovered by Harry James in 1939 while he was working waiting tables at a restaurant in New Jersey. Sinatra started recording as a solo artist with Columbia Records in 1944 and appeared in a slew of films including "From Here to Eternity," "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and "On the Town." His final public performance was in 1995.
