October 5 is Do Something Nice Day, which means it's a chance to do a little more for others than you usually do on a daily basis. Don't worry if you don't have a lot of money to spare; some of the
ideas won't cost you anything. There are quite a few ideas you can do for Do Something Nice Day that won't even require a substantial amount of time.

**Donate blood
**
Although donating blood will likely require an appointment, call anyway and see if they have any openings. They'll ask you some questions to see if you meet the criteria and, after you're finished, you'll probably even get a cookie or two. If you have a rare blood type, your donation will be even more appreciated.

**Tell people how you really feel
**
Too many people never tell others how they really feel. On Do Something Nice Day, put yourself out there and tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. They may feel great after you tell them, but chances are you'll feel even better than they do.

**Compliment a random stranger
**
It feels good to get a compliment, but even better sometimes when it comes from a random stranger. If you see someone on the street who is wearing shoes you like or just looks like they need to hear something nice, stop them and compliment them. A few simple words could brighten their entire day.

**Put a quote where someone will find it
**
We often come across a quote, article or other piece of writing just when we really need a little pick-me up or some inspiration. Write a quote on a post-it and put it where a random stranger can find it. Make up a few more and stick them around in different places. Put one on a bathroom mirror, another on a vending machine and put the rest in various other places where they'll easily be found.

**Bake for loved ones
**
Whip up cookies, brownies or other baked goods, separate them into smaller batches, then deliver them to a few loved ones. As an added touch, include a special note tied to each one.

**Send your significant other a "just because" gift
**
Although many give their significant other a present for a special occasion, it doesn't typically happen for no reason. On October 5, give your partner a "just because" gift, such as sending your girlfriend flowers at work or having your guy's favorite lunch delivered to his job. The gesture will likely be very much appreciated.

There are so many wonderful things you can do on Do Something Nice Day. Even the smallest gestures can mean so much to others. You may get so hooked on it that you get inspired to do it a little more often.
