Have you ever opened up your inbox and gotten annoyed by how much email you had in there? January 23 – 27 is your chance to clean it all out and learn how to prevent the problem from happening again – it's Clean Out Your Inbox Week! Rather than
have hundreds or thousands of emails sitting there waiting to be read, responded to or deleted, you can change things so you have as few as possible. Celebrate the week so it leaves you with one less annoyance you're forced to deal with on a daily basis.

Go through everything in your inbox

This is probably going to be incredibly annoying, but considering it's Clean Out Your Inbox Week, the first step is to, well, clean out your inbox. Read everything you want, respond to whatever requires a response and delete the trash until you have nothing left in your inbox. It may take you a few hours, but once it's done, you'll actually feel quite relieved.

Set up separate emails

When you have everything being sent to a single email address, your inbox is going to start overflowing. Set up separate emails to keep everything organized. Make one just for your loved ones, another specifically for work, etc, even if it means you have three or four emails. You can deal with each email address one at a time instead of having all the emails shoved in your face all at once.

Combat unwanted emails

You likely already have your spam filters set up properly, but one problem that causes a clogged inbox is subscription emails. You mean to sign up for them temporarily, but after they're no longer of use to you, you probably just send them to the trash instead of unsubscribing. Stop them from getting there in the first place. Go through your emails, scroll to the bottom and hit "unsubscribe" from all the emails you no longer want.

Commit to dealing with emails immediately

Don't let your emails build up to the point where you have a huge amount to deal with and it becomes overwhelming. Set two or three times a day when you go through your new email and deal with them then and there. The best times are first thing in the morning, around 2pm and right before you stop working at the end of the day. When you set times to check them, it can also help you from getting distracted by checking them throughout the day.

Use Clean Out Your Inbox Week as your opportunity to combat one major annoyance you have to deal with on a daily basis. It may not seem like a big thing to have no emails to look over, but once you have that weight off your shoulders, it can actually be quite freeing.
