House of ARC hosts hands-on workshops for children aged 8-12.
The brainchild of Yvonne Larsen and Helen Benjaminsen, House of ARC was inspired by the Norsk Form in Norway and presents a unique range of architecture and design weekend workshops and school holiday programs in Perth.
Upcoming workshops for the spring school holidays include three two-day school holiday programs.
These workshops are taught by a great team of educators, which include young design professionals and architecture students.
The curriculum is based on a series of hands-on activities which are designed to encourage creativity. Children will learn about designing and planning and will have the opportunity to build structures as a team with a range of materials, including timber dowels, oversized building blocks and simple tools.
Taught in a safe and encouraging environment, House of ARC's weekend workshops and school holiday program are designed to inspire and nurture creativity in children. Much of the curriculum draws from a range of school subjects, including maths, social science, visual art and science and technology, and there is also an emphasis on play and having fun.

Weekend Workshop: The Arch
Date:
Saturday, 21st September 2013.

Venue: ECU Joondalup Campus
Cost: $75
In this interactive workshop children will learn about the arch structure; from how it was used by the ancient romans to how it surrounds us today. The workshop will include the chance to build an arch using large building blocks and children will be invited to take on the roles of architects, stonemasons and carpenters.
Weekend Workshop: Triangles

The triangle will be the focus of this interactive workshop. Children will learn about how shapes and materials act differently in the built environment and will test strength and force using ropes, dowels and their own bodies. As a group, children will also construct large scale triangle and tetrahedron structures.
School Holidays - The Arch and Triangles

Day 1. Children will explore how arches are built by using large foam building blocks and will learn the history and various uses of this unique structure.
DAY 2. Children will learn how to construct triangles and tetrahedrons with bamboo sticks and over 2 metre long dowels. Children will also explore how shapes and materials act differently in the built environment.
All facilitators have a Working with Children clearance and have completed first aid training.
All required materials will be supplied to children.
Children should bring along a light and healthy lunch and water bottle.
