A free party for you and your dog
Houndwave 2, a Free Dog Friendly Music Festival in Adelaide
Houndwave is a free music festival in Adelaide exclusively for you and your dog(s). Held in Light Square, Houndwave 2 is of course now in its second year and attracted a large and friendly crowd last year. Unfortunately cats are not permitted for their own safety, and if your dog isn't friendly or well socialised then you should leave it at home. All dogs are kept on leash at all times and the event raises money for the RSPCA South Australia and Animal Welfare League SA.
While billed as a music festival there are loads of fun things to do for all ages at Houndwave 2. In addition to your dog, children are especially welcome, and you'll find a kidzone with the Imagination playground, face painting, and colouring in activities providing free fun for kids.
Last year there were dog-friendly competitions with prizes including "best-dressed dog" and "best trick", and organisers are open to other suggestions for what you would like to see included. My dogs are real celebrity stalkers, and last year they cosied up to Martin Haese while the Lord Mayor was judging the competitions. I do wonder if they were paparazzi in previous lives.
You can pick up dog-friendly freebies from a number of suppliers at Houndwave 2 including PetStock and Adelaide Vets, dog grooming and do's, fur painting from Grooming with Shelley and dapper outfits from several vendors. My dogs will be on short leads as we browse the market stalls, as they aren't above poaching if nobody is watching.

In the breaks between musicians check out the education sessions from Adelaide Vets, agility demonstrations (dog, not human), and take in some dog yoga from Advanced Behavioural School. Doggy bags will be available for items from suppliers and stall holders.
Finding food for your furbabies will be easy at Houndwave 2's market stalls, and humans are in for a treat too. Confirmed food vendors on the day are Chipsters, Bubble Bus, Ragini Spice, Evi's Grecian Delights, Retro Refresh, The Wedgie Barn, and Diggety's Hot Dogs (hopefully not four-legged). Kids will love Sky Doodles Fairy Floss, while Signor Arrosticini, Animals Australia and Booknook and Bean will bring even more food choices.
Retro Fresh will offer some healthy food choices, chips and chips. Drinks on offer include bubble tea, cocktails and mocktails from Chihuahua Bar, dandelion wines, heirloom wines, Little Creatures and Dog Day's beers.
Houndwave 2 takes place in Adelaide's Light Square on Saturday April 7 from 11am until 4pm. Bring the whole family and everyone can meet new friends and join in the fun things to do on the day. Find out more about this free event from the Facebook event page where updates will be posted as information comes to hand.
