In between boys running around energised, my youngest excitedly expressed his wish to see Hotel Transylvania after spying the ad on television. This computer-animated movie is due to hit the big screen in Australia on Thursday, 20th September, 2012.

We decided to go early and support the Sony Charity Screening at Reading Cinemas for this film on Sunday, 16th September, 2012. The cost of $10 per ticket, plus admin fees, was well worth the money; 100% being donated to charity.

Like most movies these days that are directed for children or families, slight adult content is slipped-in humorously, with the real meaning going over young ones heads. The laughs were aplenty, as too was the quick-flowing dialogue and almost non-stop action.

My youngest was also quick to point out the fact that he had stayed seated the entire movie without feeling the need to get up. I think he surprised us both on this occasion. If this is any indicator, kids will surely remain riveted until the very end.

The story follows Dracula and his daughter Mavis, who are living in a hotel he designed, after the sad departure of Mavis's mother. Mavis is about to turn 118 years old and wants to 'see the world.'

Her Dad has other ideas and attempts to keep her and everyone else focused on organising her birthday party. He does not 'count' on a human finding the monster only hotel and embarks on a mission to maintain control.

Will he be able to keep hidden the true mystery of the one known as 'Johnnystein?' Does he break his daughter's heart? Will all the hotel monsters find out the young man they've swiftly grown fond of is not actually a monster?

You won't need convincing, but this family comedy is one you don't want to miss.

The movie can also be viewed in 3D. I give the 2D version a personal 9 out of 10 - great to watch with the kids!
