Rottnest Hotel

Hotel Rottnest is located on the popular holiday destination, Rottnest Island. A quick 30 minute ferry ride across the Indian Ocean will transport you to this car free paradise.

Swimming, cycling, snorkeling, family fun park, adventure tours, historic tours and whale watching are just some of the many things to do on the island.

Turquoise waters

The recently renovated Hotel Rottnest is one of two privately owned resorts on the island. The other one is The Rottnest Lodge. There are 18 rooms in total which consist of either courtside or bayside (views of Thomson Bay).

Our room was one of the courtside rooms. It was clean and comfortable with air conditioning, a mini bar, hair dryer, tea and coffee and flatscreen TV. Hanging on the wall was a nice picture of the island by a local artist.

Courtside Room

The courtyard environment is fairly unique to Perth accommodation. Before going out to dinner we would sit in the courtyard with some champagne. Quite often the courtyard was quiet despite the Hotel being fully booked for the Hoodoo Guru's concert.

The Hotel is connected to the beautiful pub which happens to have a magnificent terrace that overlooks Thomsons Bay. The pub is open for lunch and dinner. To eat at the pub I think the prices are rather high and a burger and chips will set you back about $26.00. The atmosphere and view is really something, you can spend hours watching the scene and really it is why we ended up eating at the pub one night.

I enjoy my champagne and I was pleased to see that you can order a glass of MUMM Champagne for the same price as local wine, thank you!

Curious Quokka

The local marsupial called the Quokka is a curious animal and sometimes they will wander into the pub. It is really important not to feed them as tempting as it may be, this is to ensure that they live strong in the future.

The pub is kid friendly and one night as we ate dinner we happily watched the kids running around playing together. Like I said it is a great atmosphere.

We spotted a nice quiet area, perfect when the pub gets busy and you want some space.

Although it was an expensive stay, it was worth the money for the experience. The island is stunning and the accommodation incredibly relaxing. The service is okay and in fact the cleaners were the friendliest staff we encountered, definitely room for improvement.

Some important information:

The pub has a dress code - no bathers, you must be dressed

At the pub it is no table order service, so find a seat and order at the counter.

There is no room service but the pub is next door and you can order a takeaway wood fired pizza

Room prices start from $260.00

Bayside rooms have their own courtyard and are more expensive. To be honest save your money, there is a lot of room at the pub and you can most likely find a corner to yourself with some snacks.

The island is pretty popular and it is difficult to make last minute room bookings, best to book ahead.
