When I decided to stay in Mazunte for three months to take the Hridaya Yoga Teacher Training course, I decided that I needed somewhere to stay that would be comfortable and close to the school.

I was recommended Rose's place by a friend to stay for at least the first few nights and I couldn't bring myself to move away from the fabulous views and beautiful setting.

is perched on the top of a small hill between the villages of Mazunte and San Augustinillo and offers a fantastic vista over both beaches.

I stayed in one of the cabanas, which are small but perfectly formed. There are three of these rooms with attached bathroom, hot water and fan.

From outside my room I could see the sunrise over the sea every morning and would often spend time hanging out on my porch with the geckos that would bask in the sun in front of me.

There were two beautiful cats in residence when I was staying there, one was a kitten and at first scared to come near me, while the other was an expert in scavenging food.

There is a kitchen for guest use and although it could have more in the way of pots, pans, cutlery and bowls it serves a useful purpose. The owner has been making improvements to the kitchen and I hope she continues to build on it since it is a valued feature of the accommodation in Mazunte.

Suites

I was also lucky enough to stay in two of the suites for a few nights while my girlfriend was visiting and doing some work with Rose. There are 3 of these rooms and they come with their own private plunge pool. I particularly liked the middle suite with a large terrace and fabulous view.

Pool

One of the best features of the hotel is the small pool available for guest use. It is shaded and the water is cool but given how hot it gets in Mazunte this is definitely a good thing! I found it the perfect antidote after walking up the hill from the beach.

As far as the location goes, the beach can be accessed by a small path and takes about 5 minutes going down and maybe a bit more coming back up (it's quite steep). The Hridaya yoga school is very close and there is a small cut-through behind the cabanas. This route can also take you down to the main road on the San Augustinillo side or you can go along the main entrance towards Mazunte.

The multiple miradors or rooftops with views around the property give you so many options to relax in a hammock, or just gaze out at the sea and the beach. On the top of the "penthouse" room there is a rooftop which has probably the most stunning view of all. This is also amazing at night when the stars are fantastic.

Rose is an extremely welcoming host and I found her helpful and generous in my time in Mazunte. She is always happy to help and to chat and will go out of her way to provide anything you might need. She is also constantly working to improve the place and at the moment is concluding work on her new "dark room" which is available for retreats as inspired by the school next door.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place for a stay in Mazunte.
