The humble hot chocolate, so divine yet oh so comforting. In the cooler, winter months many of us like to rug up on the couch near a heater with a hot chocolate in tow on any cold evening. With an abundance of chocolate cafes springing up in the city, it can be a difficult decision in deciding on where to enjoy a quality, delicious and comforting hot chocolate to drink. Hot chocolate will not taste the same once you have been to these establishments. For the hot chocolate lovers at heart, whether you're a local or a visitor to Sydney and you can't get enough of the great hot cocoa, then take some chocolate hearts and head on to a . You have heard of a pub crawl, what about a hot chocolate crawl? Indeed. Just ditch the marshmallows (quite frankly you don't need them) and you're home and hosed for a great hot chocolate sensory experience with a grin on your face.

1. Bistro Fax Restaurant & Bar

The first stop on this crawl would be in opulence and luxury at the Bistro Fax Restaurant & Bar at Radisson Blu Hotel Sydney. This hotel is the only hotel group in Sydney (albeit the entire country) where you can enjoy a cup of Max Brenner's hot chocolate in a Max Brenner hug mug outside of Max Brenner's chocolate bars. If given the choice between going to a normal Max Brenner's chocolate bar (the nearest from this locale is at the Met Centre) and enjoying the same in more luxurious settings, it is clearly a no brainer as to where this designed crawl is to begin. A complimentary biscuit comes with your Max Brenner hot chocolate here. All for only $5.50. This will set the scene for an amazing crawl.

2. Lindt Chocolat Cafe Martin Place

Next stop, milk hot chocolate supreme reigns at Lindt Chocolat Cafe's Sydney flagship store. Find yourself sitting on the comfortable leather couch, and enjoy your share of some 'make your own' hot chocolate, of which is equivalent to two standard servings. You can choose from either the dark or the milk chocolate varieties. Once your delightful, simple treat arrives - you are presented with a jug of hot frothy milk to pour into the cup yourself, in tandem with a small jug of chocolate syrup. The latter makes way for opportunities to dip your spoon or finger into the pot and lick a bit off. This is a great idea. Why? You can choose how much chocolate and milk you would like in each cup of quality hot chocolate. Nice one, and great value at $7 a pop.

3. Bon Bon Fine Chocolate Cafe

A hot chocolate crawl isn't a hot chocolate crawl until you have enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate at the place that is dubbed the 'king' of hot chocolates in Sydney. Welcome to the cafe at Bon Bon Fine Chocolates at the Strand Arcade. Clearly Mr Bon Bon knows what he is doing. Go for one of their traditional hot chocolates, and you will be satisfied with this back to back hot chocolate crawl. The ivory coast milk chocolate (the one I went for recently) contains 40% cocoa, while the next choice is the java medium dark that contains 60% cocoa. If you love a strong cocoa hit, then your next choices include the madagascar dark chocolate that contains 70% cocoa, and the ecuador that is a darker, bitter tasting hot chocolate drink with 85% cocoa. With the madagascar hot chocolate, you can also choose to enjoy this hot chocolate drink here with a bit of habanero chilli.

If you wish to continue this crawl (although optional) you can head to Max Brenner's at Westfield Sydney, otherwise these three hot chocolates will be enough to put that hot chocolate smile on your face, where you can easily say "Thank you for that, I have had a great day." Thank goodness for chocolate, the great mood lifter. How appropriate, the last hot chocolate comes with a dark chocolate frog to celebrate the end of this crawl, and pun intended.
