Winter for me is synonymous with two things, toasty warm fires and velvet-smooth hot chocolate. If I had you at the first sprinkling of 'chocolate,' then let me add the foam to your excitement by telling you about the one winter festival you'll not want to miss.
The Yarra Valley Chocolaterie are featuring their highly anticipated Hot Chocolate Festival again this August, and can you find a better place to escape the cold with a hand-warming mug of hot chocolate than inside a very real, working chocolate factory?
A popular day trip and café destination any time of the year, the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie is becoming synonymous with their seasonal calendar of irresistible, chocolate-based festivals. There's the Ice Cream Festival in February, the Rocky Road Festival in May, the Brownie Festival in June, and these in addition to the heart warming Valentine's Day Festival where chocolate reigns supreme and, of course, the big one itself – Easter.

]Hot Chocolate Festival[/LINK] in August is the perfect accompaniment to the broader café menu range, where the kitchen serves hot breakfasts including eggs and waffles - to lunch options such as slow cooked pulled pork, a classic roast, BBQ'd steak, smoked salmon, pizza, sandwiches and quite a bit more.

Needless to say, hot chocolate is also the perfect partner for the dessert options, which are so tempting you may find it hard to pick just one. Create an afternoon tea delight from the range of cakes, tarts, tortes and pastries, vanilla bean scones, brownies, waffles, fondue and sundaes. The chocolaterie even serves a range of dessert styled pizza for something completely out of the box.

Not to be outdone, the hot chocolate menu is certainly taking centre stage from Tuesday 1st to Thursday 31st August 2017. Across the month, thirty-one – that's 31 – decadent hot chocolate flavour combinations will be on offer, so you'll need to visit weekly to sample the full range. Using the array of milk, dark and white couverture chocolate combined with fresh seasonal ingredients, it's anyone's guess what those industrious chocolatiers are going to come up with. Last year the menu included French Kiss, Hazelnut Chipotle, Turkish Delight, Hot Gaytime, Strawberry Freckles and Toasted Marmalade, and every hot chocolate was served with an extra shot of couverture chocolate and a giant, handcrafted marshmallow. Here's hoping they do they same again this season!

Vote for your favourite. To ensure the chocolatiers are hitting your sweet spot, guests are being offered hot chocolate tastings throughout the festival, along with the opportunity to vote for their favourite hot chocolate flavour. Last year there was a pretty delicious prize on offer, so be sure and check it out.

The Hot Chocolate Festival is being held at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie from Tuesday 1st August until Thursday 31st August 2017. The Chocolaterie is located at 35 Old Heavlesville Road, Yarra Glen on the corner of Melbourne Highway, an hour out of Melbourne. The chocolaterie is open every day except Christmas Day from 9am to 5pm and entry is free.
