Myself, my sister and my mum all went up in a hot air balloon with 'Hot Air' on the Gold Coast in May 2012. It was one of the most fantastic things any of us have ever done. A tour bus picked us up from our hotel at 4:30am and we were driven to the launching location in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

They don't know the exact site of where you leave from until that morning, as it depends on the weather. After going through all the safety things, we left the bus and 'boarded' the basket in the paddock.

The sight of the huge hot air balloon being inflated was amazing in itself. The basket was a lot bigger than I expected, and fit nearly 20 of us.

It was a very surreal feeling floating up off the ground and drifting away up in the air. It was foggy the morning we went, but it didn't spoil it, in fact, it made the views spectacular as we floated above the fog and looked out over the hinterland. The sun rising was also amazing.

We would have been up in the air for longer than we expected, over an hour. I was a bit apprehensive about going up but once you are up there, you don't even think about it! The pilot and the other two guys working for the company were great and very funny.

The bumpy landing added to the experience. Once we were out, everyone helped fold the gigantic balloon up and into the trailer, then we all hopped on the back and headed back to the bus.

We then went to O'Reilly's Vineyard for a delicious hot and buffet breakfast and a glass of champagne to celebrate a safe flight.

I would recommend this experience to everyone.
