Hola! The Mexican culture is one ongoing party. Haven't you seen those Old EL Paso ads? From inflatable cactus coolers and chilli bowls to tacos and tequila, this article will provide ideas for the perfect Mexican themed party.

Any party starts with invitations. These days a facebook invite is about as personal as they get, with everyone's busy schedule it's easier for someone to click attending than to open an envelope and RSVP by phone. Personalise the facebook event page by throwing in some typical Mexican phrases and a picture:

Piñatas are the centrepiece of any Mexican themed party. Paper Mache used to mean long tedious hours with a newspaper, a balloon and a disgusting glue mixture but these days you can buy so many different piñatas from the local party shop, or even at Spotlight.

Costumes are crucial when it comes to parties; they instantly liven up the room and give you a key focus for conversation. You will need to get your hands on a poncho, something colourful and gaudy, a sombrero and a couple of maracas.

Decorations instantly set the scene. Mexican themed decorations are everywhere, try the cheap shop, party shop or even your local supermarket. Ebay is a god when it comes to themes. I bought this inflatable cactus drink cooler especially for the event and it went down a treat.

Fairy lights always set the scene, as do hanging chillies. Get creative and see what you can come up with. As a general rule stick with warm colours - reds, yellows and oranges.

Food - got to keep the crowds happy and with the amount of ready to eat Mexican themed food, you'll be done in no time. Think tacos, nachos and enchiladas. Keep it as a buffet option so people can make them the way they like them. Check out the range at here.

Drinks are just as important, if not more so at a party. Of course you have to have the typical sangria bowl, check out the staple recipe here. You'll also need tequila to whip up some Margaritas or have a shot by itself – don't forget the lemon and salt chasers!

Now you're all set to host your very own Mexican themed party. Arriba!
