Walk to give hope to those in your community who need it
If you haven't heard of 'Relay for Life' before clicking on this article, it is an amazing charity which brings together communities in a physical marathon to raise much needed funds for Cancer research. The Cancer Council of Australia organises these days annually nationwide and is a great way for people of all backgrounds and fitness levels to show their support and get active for a fantastic cause.
Relay for Life is a 24 hour event that is completed in groups to not only raise funds to help those suffering with cancer but also to recognise and celebrate the people in our lives who have lost the battle to the disease. This year, the Cancer Council of NSW have organised an event for the 4th of November, 2017 at Hornsby's Rofe Park, north-west of the Sydney CBD.
As stated the competition is done in groups with a variety of people of all ages & physical fitness levels joining in to raise funds. Why not get together some friends, family members or even colleagues to participate?
Relay for Life starts at 10am on the 4th of November and goes to 10am the following morning. I participated in Relay for Life in my early years at high school and I must say that energy drinks and coffee got me through the day long period (just food for thought!)
Essentially the 'relay' is to take turns in ones group to simply walk/jog or some can even run around the mapped out course to show your support to the cause at hand. It's even just a great event in the sense to get more involved within your local community and to maybe even set yourself some of your own health goals, all with the support of your friends, families or your colleagues around you.
It will cost you a little bit to join up to one of the groups who will be involved in the walkathon, but your registration fee goes straight to the Cancer Council along with all the money that is raised by you. Registration is $30 per person from the 9th of October 2017. However they do have an early-bird offer at the moment - if you pay before the date mentioned above it will only costs you $20 to register your team for the Relay. Registration costs include your own 'Relay for Life' shirt, breakfast in the morning & the entertainment put on by the Cancer Council.
So if you have been looking for a fun way to show your support in community events, why not get together or join a group of people ready to walk at this year's charitable event?!
You will feel tired after the walkathon but also with a great sense of accomplishment!
