is the beautiful public space outside Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Hornsby's CBD. You won't find a better place for a picnic anywhere nearby.

Large trees provide shade over the grass and there are many chairs if you don't want to sit on the ground. A walkway near Peats Ferry Road provides more nooks to relax in and the gardens along this path provide a barrier against the busy thoroughfare on the other side.

At one end of the park is the Hornsby campus of the Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW . It's at this end you'll find a tiny portion of the park, somewhat hidden and raised higher than the rest, and jammed with facilities that are particularly good for families.

This section offers toilets (clean and new, yet one of the two had a lock broken when I visited) as well as tables, barbecues and a playground. The area is small so there isn't room for too many groups, but (probably because there are more organisations that residential buildings in the vicinity) I haven't often seen it in use.

Over at the pool is Cafe Plunge, which offers alfresco dining and snacks. It's open for breakfast and lunch every day, and also for dinner on Friday and Saturday. On Sundays there is live music from 11.00am.

A visit to the pool itself costs $7.00 per adult or $5.00 for a child. Other facilities it offers include a gym and child-minding. The park is also in walking distance of Hornsby Westfield and Hornsby Station.
