Unfortunately no matter how busy life gets, cleaning and car washing are painstaking chores that just must be done. But as I juggle a demanding work schedule and socialising with friends, I'm left with little inclination to grab a bottle of armour oil and a chamois and take to my Toyota Corolla at the end of a busy week. So instead, I grab my keys and head to Hoppy's Handwash Café.

is located on the corner of Wynnum and Bennetts Roads at Norman Park. There are also stores at Toowong and Bowen Hills. You'll even find dog washing bays at the Bowen Hills store, so you can take your pooch along for a bit of pampering, however I don't recommend transporting a wet dog home in your newly clean car unless you're cool with that.

I'm conscious of the necessity for water conservation. In recent years, many councils have driven home this message by issuing water restrictions which permit limited water usage on allocated days. What's comforting to know is that car washes have to comply with trade waste rules. Hoppy's also use recycled water, and efficiency systems, like gurneys for timed water usage. They also use PH neutral soaps which aren't damaging to your car or the environment.

You can pick from a range of different services. The basic service is called an exterior clean and takes about 15 to 20 minutes. For $25, you get a car wash, sealer wax and blow dry.



The premium services take about 30 to 50 minutes and are priced between $65 to $95. They feature various bells and whistles, like anti-rust treatment, leather upholstery conditioning, headlight restoration and car matt shampooing – and the list goes on. My personal favourite is the $10 'Wheel Bling' - because a girl can never have enough bling.



Hoppy's are conveniently open Monday to Saturday from 7.30am to 5pm, and Sunday from 8am to 4.30pm. While you leave your car to the experts, you can relax in the cafe with a coffee, read a magazine and purchase a snack from the selection of sandwiches, hot foods such as pies and sausage rolls, and sweets such as cheesecake.

So in as little as 30 minutes (depending on the service) you can be home and hosed so to speak. And nothing feels better than driving home in a lush smelling, shiny car. Though if you own a Toyota Corolla like me, you'd probably just as easily settle for a dirty Maserati!
