Hopman Cup is an annual tennis tournament in Perth. This year, players from Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Great Britain, Italy, Poland and United States participated in the tournament. It took place from 4-10 January at Perth Arena.
I could feel the heat from outside the venue. There were big crowds who were very excited as they were taking free flags of the supporting country, enjoying taking photos, and lining up to enter the venue. It was my first visit to Perth Arena and it was a very impressive building, modern and clean, with many friendly staff were there to assist the visitors.
I watched the Australia versus France match. It started at 5.30pm with women's singles and men's singles and continued to a mixed doubles match. Every player did their best to win the matches and the audience responded to them with great cheers. The cheers and excitement grew louder and bigger each match. When the Australian male player, Marinko Matosevic won the final set by challenging the judge's call in the men's single match, the Australian supporters couldn't hide their joy of victory.
Breaks between games were another amusement, apart from matches. It was time to watch highlights, short films about players and you could be on the screen and be a part of the event. There were chances to get signed balls or win some great prizes, too.
