The eastern suburbs of Adelaide seem to have garnered a reputation for being "the hub" of delicious food spots and general chill spots for friends and family to catch up. Hopes and Beans is the latest addition to the 'burb of Payneham, where the focus is to provide its customers with healthy and mouth-watering options of food and drink in a safe, family-oriented atmosphere.

With a brilliant take on the pun of "Hopes and dreams", the "Beans" component in their name is meant to correspond to the fact that they are a vegetarian and vegan-friendly café.

This little café possesses a lot of character, with their mismatched furniture, simplistic and minimalist style of décor, pop art from the golden years and even a small play area for the kiddies to have fun with the toys available at the café.

The hospitality of the staff working at Hopes and Beans made me feel warmly welcomed in their cute establishment. Being a small, family-run business, you can feel the love when they aspire to have all your needs catered to.

Being a true lover of avocado, the smashed avocado on rye was an excellent dish that was served with tomato salsa, sticky balsamic vinegar, roquette, and lime. The dish tasted really fresh and had a good combination of ingredients that made it a winner. While the balsamic vinegar may have occasionally felt like it was overpowering in taste, this is a dish that I would order again for breakfast / brunch, knowing that it would My only criticism with this dish would be to drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the vegetables and avoid basing the plate with the vinegar, so that the bread doesn't get too soaked in it.

I also had the opportunity to sample the Gourmet Hot Dog that my friend ordered. This dish was served with chorizo, caramelized onion, bacon, cheese, homemade relish and mustard, served with a side salad. The hot dog tasted really good and was cooked well enough to have a sultry smoky flavour. Not being a huge fan of mustard, I thought the hot dog would have tasted better without the relish, but apart from that, it was a meal that could potentially fill your belly up in no time, with all its meaty glory.

Overall, I was glad with the service and food at Hopes and Beans. It's located in a really nice and quiet spot of Payneham, which attracts a decent crowd, so you can be guaranteed to have a pleasant experience of dining here. I've heard a lot about their burgers as well - make sure you give them a go and see whether they're as delicious in taste as they are in presentation!
