Hope Valley Reservoir Reserve Opening Celebrations

With a capacity of almost three gigalitres, Adelaide's oldest and smallest reservoir is the centrepiece of the Hope Valley Reservoir Reserve which will be opened to the public on Sunday the 13th of December 2020. A free community event has been planned for this historic opening, and the fair-like celebrations will begin at 8:30am with an official opening ceremony, music, food, coffee and crafting items.

For the first time in 150 years, you will be able to ride, walk and jog across the 800-metre heritage dam wall as well as explore the 4.9-kilometre shared-use network of unsealed trails. Children are encouraged to decorate their bikes for the event.

Several picnic tables are available along the trails, so you can pack a picnic basket if you wish and sit back to enjoy the view. Two dam wall lookout shelters provide a stunning view across the water to the hills. For those interested in birdwatching, ample species call the reserve home. You can also spot native animals, lizards and frogs. Fitness equipment and a nature play area are in the pipeline for next year.

Access to the opening celebrations is through the north-west gates adjacent the O-Bahn Bikeway. Limited street parking is available on Armiger Ct, from where you'll enter via the underpass to the O-Bahn bus route. To ensure water quality, please leave your dogs at home as they are not permitted in the reserve.
