Hoodoo Gurus have announced a national tour to celebrate 40 years since they released
Stoneage Romeos, their debut album in March 1984 by Big Time Records in Australia. The album featured the hits Leilani, Tojo, My Girl, and I Want You Back.
It reached
#29 on the Australian Album Chart and won Best Debut Album at the 1984 Countdown Awards. Stoneage Romeos has consistently topped the Top 10 on almost every Australian album list, including the Top 50 and Top 100.
The band's music style, often described as a blend of garage rock, power pop, and surf rock, has been a significant influence on the Australian music scene. Musician Dave Faulkner formed the Hoodoo Gurus with Richard Grossman, Mark Kingsmill and Brad Shepherd in 1981. The band's name was influenced by the rhyming songs of the '50s, such as Good Golly, Miss Molly and Dizzy, Miss Lizzy.
Since forming in 1981, Hoodoo Gurus has not only boasted 10 x ARIA Top 20 albums, 9 x ARIA Top 40 singles, and a host of multi-platinum albums but also influenced a new generation of artists who have followed them. They're stalwarts of the live scene, and their influence on the music industry is undeniable.
Few other artists have toured as comprehensively, achieved such an enduring reputation over successive generations, enjoyed fans' loyalty, and maintained such high currency for their work 2013 both within Australia and abroad. The Hoodoo Gurus' enduring reputation is a testament to their talent and dedication.
Journalist James Jennings wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald.
"...the Hoodoos prove there's a good reason why they can sell out such a sizeable venue four decades into their career, the tight four-piece playing with an explosive energy that puts bands half their age to shame."
The announcement of the Hoodoo Gurus' Back to the Stoneage Tour has shown how much love there is for the iconic band. Extra shows have been added to meet overwhelming demand, including a night at Forum Melbourne on November and Thursday, November 21. These additional shows are a testament to the band's enduring popularity and the excitement surrounding their 40th-anniversary tour.
Hoodoo Gurus have been and remain one of the most popular and successful musical acts Australia has ever produced.
