Surrounded by the hustle & bustle of The Junction, could easily be swamped by the noisy lifestyle of the nearby locals and shoppers alike. However, this eccentric café stands out above the rest, offering customers the experience of an offbeat small town café, without having to venture out of Newcastle.

The servers are clad in Hawaiian-themed shirts, giving the place a relaxed, surfer-friendly vibe - quite a contrast to the busy nature of The Junction.

The espresso is strong, accompanied by fruity, tangy notes – I personally prefer a more robust flavour, but the quality of the coffee itself is far too excellent to pass up. The Hood also offers customers the option of buying their own coffee beans, so they can bring the cafe experience home with them.

The American-style food options are a tad overpriced, but the quality of the ingredients is a testament to the café's dedication to using only the best produce for their clientele.

Despite having such a cosy atmosphere, the seating options are abundant, offering tables of all sizes, as well as individual booths if you prefer a more private dining affair.

Perhaps the most notable feature of this café is the Ice Cream bar located right next to the cash registers. Offering an impressive 32 flavours, it has become a treasured spot among the local children who crave a refreshing treat after a long school day.

Next time you're in The Junction, be sure to give a visit. Who knows, it may surprise you.
