Hopping between Hong Kong, London, Hua Hin and Sydney. Exploring and eating my way through these great cities. I have a small tummy, big appetite.
Thousands of books under one roof and more
The annual Hong Kong Book Fair is being held at the Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. It is a great place to browse a wide selection of English language books under one roof. There are some, but not many, English language book shops in Hong Kong so this fair is an excellent opportunity to stock up.
This year's theme is "Travel" and there will be a dedicated zone "Around the World through Words" featuring the works of nine Hong Kong travel writers from different backgrounds. At the Travel Seminar Series various travel writers will tell their own tales and scholars will analyse selected travel works. Sessions are free once inside the book fair.
Other workshops include English Reading and Creative Writing Seminar Series, Children's Youth Reading Seminar Series and Hong Kong Cultural and Historical Seminar Series.
Besides books, there is also a pop up art Gaglery featuring "A Journey to Sichuan" exhibition. Visitors can learn about the rich history of Sichuan and attend a demonstration of the famous Sichuan 'face-changing' opera, tea-as-art performances and an ancient string instrument recital.
Inside the "Beyond the Picture" zone, there is a National Geographic exhibition showcasing photos of landscapes, sceneries and architecture from Hong Kong and further afield. On display is also a collection of photos, postcards and stamps from Hong Kong's past.
One of my friends who went last year said, 'it was big and there were sections of English books. It kept me entertained for at least two hours!'
So head on down to Wan Chai and unleash the bibliophile in you.
