A lively restaurant just 40 minutes' drive from Adelaide
Honey Bang Bang is a lively South East Asian restaurant in the Adelaide Hills town of Littlehampton. Located just 40 minutes drive from the city, this husband-and-wife establishment has clearly delivered on its flavoursome pledge. The menu offers a selection of distinctively tasty food that are made from locally sourced produce wherever possible.
We kicked off dinner with the Waraich's own take on a much-loved Aussie snack. The Chiko Roll has been reinvented as a crispy crunchy chicco roll filled with spiced beef mince and potato. As my tastebuds flew, I was reminded of both the Malaysian curry puff and the Chinese spring roll.
Next is our second appetiser called the crying tiger which comes ready for us to build a salad. Starting with the lettuce, we placed a slice of chargrilled beef and some salsa on top and then poured over the dipping sauce. The slightly sweet, sour and spicy dressing was just the perfect accompaniment in honour of the beef.
For the main course, we decided to go with the classic green chicken curry. Its green chillies provided the right amount of heat for me although some might not find the dish hot enough. I also loved the hint of Thai basil amongst the chicken, baby corn and eggplant. This curry is definitely a winner in my book.
The restaurant has a banquet option too if you'd rather just be fed and not worry about reading the menu. We were served by Hailey who presented herself in a very warm and friendly manner. She'll be happy to guide you through your order. We skipped dessert this time around but the warm black sticky rice with fruit, cream and coconut crumb does look good.
Lunch bookings are available from Wednesdays to Fridays while dinner reservations can be made for any day except Mondays and Sundays. There's a choice of either indoor or outdoor dining at the restaurant's Old Princes Highway location. For more information, please head to their website at honeybangbang.com.au.
