Parties, Shopping and eating all under one roof
When I was young and just started working, each pay I would venture down to Horsburgh's, a store in Maryborough that had everything to either put an item of crockery on Lay-by or purchase something for my Glory Box. A girls' "Glory Box" was a chest of wares collected with essentials as a start for when we got married. As I mingled around the shop "Homewares from Everywhere" admiring the range of items for every room in the house, it took me back to that time in my youth.
Easy to find, look for the pink mini on Gayndah Road
Homewares from Everywhere can be located on Gayndah Road, Maryborough and began as a small gift shop some three years ago. It is very easy to find due to the bright pink Mini and VW Beetle parked outside. It is totally amazing how Jan and Trevor have grown this shop over just three years to the amazing business it is today. With many ideas of expansion still to come, growth is an ongoing event.
Late 2013 a wall was pulled down to make room for a larger café which can hold around 60 patrons. There is also a lovely courtyard at the side under sails that also can seat 60 people. They have already taken bookings for Christmas parties of 20-30 guests so it would be advantageous to book early if you are considering them for a venue. Apart from Morning and Afternoon Tea, they provide Lunch and High Teas. For functions, Trevor advised that catering is not limited to a set menu, as they are happy to provide tailor-made meals to suit your requirements. Gluten free diets, along with Dairy intolerant beverages are also catered. Although only light meals are catered at present, expansion to a full commercial kitchen is underway for the not too distant future.
They already have a range of Women's and Children's clothes imported from Sri Lanka in separate alcoves of the building and by the end of August they are hoping to open up another section specially for Men's Clothing. Brands for the men like Flinders Lane, Geoffrey Beene and David Smith along with Ferracini men's leather shoes are available for purchase; you certainly will not see yourself walking elsewhere. You will also find beautiful handbags for the ladies by Serenade, Beverley Hills Collection.
Men's, Women's and Children's Clothing - your choice is an oasis
Homewares from Everywhere carry the largest stock of Crabtree products in the Wide Bay District. The shop's stock is massive and includes crockery, kitchen items, Scanpan utensils, stationery, candles, rugs, vases, wall hangings and tapestries, clocks, speciality items and mugs, soap, perfume, jewellery, flavoured teas; and this is only the beginning. A large shelf adorns one wall with a variety condiments originated from New South Wales and these are used on the sandwiches you buy in their kitchen. Parton's are fortunate to taste the merchandise before they purchase.
A Lay-by system with no set rules is another service Jan and Trevor offer giving customers the opportunity to pay a little off the item each pay if they do not all the money at that time. Lay-by is a great age-old convenient type of purchase and something that is not used greatly these days due to invention of the credit card. It is also one way of securing the item as yours and not running up a huge bill on credit or paying for interest you cannot afford.
Two loyalty programme cards are available. The coffee loyalty card gives you the opportunity of purchasing 5 coffees with the 6th free. The other loyalty card is for merchandise purchases and if you spend over $25 you receive a stamp. When all six squares are stamped, the customer will receive 10% discount on their next purchase.
By the end of 2015, Trevor and Jan hope to have expanded further back onto their land with a vision of three shops under the same roof incorporating an old-styled shop front and behind those doors individual Men, Women and Children's clothing stores. I can't wait to see their vision become a reality as Maryborough has nothing like this, yet potential to support it, not only by locals but by tourists as well. Visitors from overseas have marvelled at the merchandise on sale, packing their suitcases with goodies to take home.
New items arrive weekly and I'm a fan of the numerous varieties of flavoured tea individually packed in foil paper. A basket of these varieties invite customers to take one for free to try at home. This time I decided to try one of their new lines; Cinnamon Toothpicks which not only have great medical properties but also if you leave one in your handbag or car, the aroma is very nice as well.
Homewares from Everywhere is open 6-days a week from 9am to 5pm and only 5 minutes from the Maryborough CBD. The business is a family run concern with both their son and daughter working in the shop. Stop by and enjoy their hospitality, their menu and you most certainly won't be able to leave without some little gift for yourself or a friend
