A dish commonly offered at Vietnamese restaurants in Adelaide, their Pork Chop Rice had pork chops cooked just right with a delectable lemongrass flavour. The pickled vegetables were not too tangy and cucumber slices added a fresh element to the dish. Nuoc cham dipping sauce came with the dish to dip the pork chop in.

When ordering their Vietnamese Salad, diners have the choice between beef and pork belly as the main ingredient. The beef that we chose was not too tough and the quantity was sufficient to make eating the dish satisfying. We requested for the bean sprouts to be cooked to lessen their raw taste. The tangy nuoc cham dressing did not make the shredded lettuce soggy and crunch was provided by a topping of fried shallots and onions. Prawn crackers came with the dish for eating with the salad.

As its name suggests, the Vietnamese Claypot Fried Rice is a fried rice dish presented in a clay pot. This gave it the ‘crust’ characteristic of claypot rice dishes. The grains of rice were light and fluffy and the pork, chicken and shrimp were cooked just right. Extra texture was provided by vegetables and the seasoning gave the dish a delectable savoury flavour. Topping the dish was a fried egg with a runny yolk.

The portion size of their Salt & Pepper Eggplant was generous and can easily be shared. The eggplants retained their texture and were fried sufficiently to give them a golden-brown colour. It is advised to take care when eating them as the interior is steaming hot when it is served. The salt and pepper seasoning were not too salty and diced capsicum added a touch of sweetness. A bed of fried vermicelli noodles provided a crunchy element.

Ordering their Wok Fry dish is done by choosing your main ingredient along with a choice of sauce. The vegetables in the Vegetable and Tofu option had a nice firm texture which was contrasted by the soft chunks of fried tofu. For the sauce, we chose garlic sauce, which had a delightful garlicy flavour that was not overpowering. Enough sauce was used to ensure the dish was not too dry.

The kernels of their Corn Ribs retained some bite and had a delightful sweet flavour. A blend of five different spices gave them an Asian flair without masking the taste of the corn. The size of the Corn Ribs was enough to make them a satisfying entree while waiting for your main dishes.

Their Hanoi Spring Rolls use rice paper wrapping for Vietnamese Cold Rolls, giving the wrapper a slightly chewy texture. They were fried sufficiently to make them crisp with a lovely golden-brown colour. The chicken, carrot, taro and black fungus filling was moist with a subtle tangy flavour. Accompanying the spring rolls was a sweet chilli dipping sauce.

The decor of the restaurant gave it a cosy feel, and diners have the choice between indoor and outdoor seating. If you are looking for a good place to enjoy Vietnamese cuisine at Mawson Lakes, consider giving Homeland Family Asian Cuisine a visit.
