Another perfect weekend in South East Queensland and another excuse for a drive in the country. Destination – Toowoomba, home of parks and gardens, Cobb Co Museum, the Empire Theatre, and you can now add coolest health café.

Made with Love
Homegrown Health Cafe is perfectly positioned on Railway Street in Toowoomba's trendy new eating precinct, alongside funky eateries, Lancaster's Antique Centre and Bikeline Bike Shop.
As people become more and more conscious of healthy eating, looking closely at what they consume and where their food comes from, cafes are finding they have to step up and be counted.
Homegrown Health has well and truly stepped up; they have added a rug and raised the bar.
As soon as you walk in, there is an organic country feel about Homegrown Health with its high ceilings, assorted tables, wooden benches and diners chatting over green smoothies and aromatic coffees. There are shelves lining the walls packed with foodstuffs, health books and artefacts. Other walls are hung with blackboards offering juices of every combination, teas, seasonal specials and salad bowls.

Juice or Smoothie ?
To be honest, choosing to sit outside, inside or upstairs was maybe the easiest decision we had to make when we strolled in for mid-morning brunch. The harder decision was choosing off the menu. Breakfast includes popular egg favourites, avo smashes and granolas along with emerging breakfast fare in the form of Buddha Bowls. Three bowls are currently on the menu offering combinations of chickpea, pumpkin, kale, Indian dhal, cauliflower, broccoli and fennel combined with herbs, spices and chillies to lift breakfast to a higher level.

We opted for poached eggs sitting delicately atop french toast, mushrooms and avocado and could not fault it. We added chai tea, energising smoothie and coffee, along with lemon water and the weekend papers. We had no choice but to sit back and be lazy.
As you would expect vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free and diary-free are well catered for at Homegrown Health as are sugar-free and paleo followers. Cabinets bursting with raw cakes, slices, protein bites greet you as you arrive …. and as you leave.

Raw Treats
At the rear of the café is an organic produce, grocery and deli area selling local produce sourced directly from the growers. All produce is certified organic grown by organic standard and are chemical-free.
