If you haven't heard of Michael Leunig then I am sure you would have seen his work from time to time. This is a man who started his career working as a political cartoonist for the Daily Newspaper in Melbourne back in 1969 and by 1974 he published his first book, The Penguin Leunig, of his collected cartoons. Since then his has flourished as a cartoonist, painter, poet, writer and philosopher. By 1999, Michael was declared a National Living Treasure by the National Trust and was awarded with honorary degrees from La Trobe and Griffith and the Australian Catholic Universities for his unique way of contributing to the Australian Culture.
This incredible artist and beloved cartoonist is here in Perth for a night of heart-lifting entertainment and to help raise funds for mental health and affordable living for those who desperately need it. Click here to learn more about Leunig and his achievements.
You will often see in Michael's work how he reflects on themes and issues about the topics of mental health, homelessness, the lack of fairness and injustice and Michael is kindly supporting this important fundraiser for the WA Association for Mental Health and Tenancy WA.
Come along on 2nd December for this rare performance which includes: Home Truths oration talking Mental Health, Social Justice and the meaning of "home" Michael will be in live conversation with mental health warrior, comedy Godfather and self-confessed anxious tenant, Werzel Montague. So, come and make a night of it! There is an optional three-course feast to be had and for only $24! For this, you will have an entrée followed by a yummy authentic Spanish Paella and ending with a delicious dessert. All diets are catered for and meals must be pre-ordered or feel free to eat beforehand as there is no food for sale on the night.
A full bar is available, NO BYO. This is an adult event in a licensed venue. People aged under 18 will only be admitted with an accompanying parent or guardian and there is no undertaking about the suitability of the content for young people.
