The surprising matching of design, technology and creativity
Have you ever thought to live in the future, let's say in 2035, with water restrictions, climate issues and critical waste management? The Product Service System Design Master students from the School of Design of the Politecnico di Milano have analysed these problems and tried to answer these upcoming challenges.
In fact, by investigating the increasing demands and needs, the students developed innovative and strategic products to help individuals to face the ensuing decades of struggles.
The exhibition, located at COMBO Milano, also aims to enhance the mindfulness and wellness of people, making them more conscious about their awareness and their scope into the environment.
The showcase is a short-term event and it runs until 8 pm on Sunday 26 January. The topics explored here are very interesting and optimistic towards the uncertain times, which is the title of the show. Accurately, it's called 2035 HOME for Uncertain Times 2035.
The purpose of the exhibition is outlined on a manifesto, a focused and vivid statement declaring the intents and concerns expressed by the Product Service System Design Master students and the actions they have undertaken to lead people to a constructive approach on the production of new tools for the improvement of everyday good habits.
An arrange of pioneering inventions are placed on stands and associated with bilingual descriptions, both in English and Italian and they are contextualised within the big city in which they have been designed to working in. On the floor, several objects representing the daily routine, travelling the world and common dreams and desires are meticulously disposed close to the prototype they each correspond to.
The most significant and groundbreaking items offered are:
LOVA, a wooden portable washing machine that can remove stains from clothes and keep them fresh and clean.
CAPSULA is a waterproof container that stores our personal belongings in a water-repellent bag inside it. Hence, the specific characteristic of this product enables it to float when water starts to rise and to be brought outside when the owner needs to move and go out.
ANACLETO is the flying camera that stands on your shoulder and follows you everywhere when taking tours. A special mat is anchored on the shoulder and through the magnetic levitation, Anacleto can turn on the fluctuating air. So, it becomes your second pair of eyes that records pictures and videos of your visit tour.
SHILIGHT, a tower-like portable table lamp, spreads a natural light and boosts the growth of the daily alga requirements of Shanghai inhabitants and allows the purifying and recycling process of the water itself when the lamp must be turned over to harvest the algae. In one object and one step, we recreate our balance and harmony with nature, giving back the precious gift of time too.
MUU, the original dreamcatcher, relieves children's nightmares and negative vibes. In this way, the little ones have been given the opportunity to record their beautiful dreams and use them later as a game, when the fears during the night appear again.
Other amazing creations are displayed, emphasising the social and empathic sides of human beings. Trying to overcome stereotypes and selfishness and contemplating the team building and the sense of community concepts, no one can miss getting involved in the MA'AMOULD (the cookies of empathy) and the EATWEEN projects.
At the end, there is a video projection that demonstrates how effectively the products-services participate in the daily routine. Moreover, in the last room you can pin your message for the future too.
