Homage by Alexia Sinclair, Ground Level Exhibition at Customs House
Alexia Sinclair is an award winning Australian photographic and digital artist, with numerous exhibitions including at the Australian Centre for Photography and the Art Gallery of NSW. Symbolism and motif are the cornerstones of Sinclair's works, and you'll find interesting stories behind her works. Through the study of nobility in history and portraiture, Sinclair's works vividly reflect the lives of nobles, queens and legends – famous and infamous - ranging from Marie Antoinette to Alexander the Great. Sinclair's exhibiting works are delicately linked to the historical past but they are beautifully executed in a contemporary and witty manner. Photographs and illustrations are well blended in her works especially the costume built around her portraits; they are simply refreshing and innovative.
Since Homage is also part of Head On Portrait Festival. The opening of the Festival and announcement of the Portrait Prize winners will also take place on 4 May Friday 7-9pm at Customs House. Head On Photo Festival is Sydney's major innovative showcase for Australian portrait photography, featuring wide array of new and traditional photographic practices.
Following your visit to the Homage exhibition, take the opportunity to attend the festival opening and grasp the first-hand news about the winners.
