Choo Choo... The Holiday Train Show is here!

The New York Botanical Garden 's famous Holiday Train Show has arrived! This year the show promises to keep your holiday spirit joy from November 17 until January 13, 2013.

I have been taking my children to the train show every year since 2002. They never get tired of it. My son, now seven, loves the trains and gets really excited every time I tell him that the show is here. He will be running from one spot to the next watching the model trains running along the tracks and through the tunnels. It's priceless to see how happy he is.

If you have friends and family in town for the holidays what else to do to make them enjoy their visit other than bringing them to the Holiday Train show right here in da hood.

The Holiday Train Show exhibits New York landmarks by model trains. Natural material like bark, twigs, stems, fruits, seeds and pine cones are used to build more than 140 iconic buildings, including the Statue of Liberty , the Brooklyn Bridge , and the original Yankee Stadium in our Bronx neighborhood. The model trains runs through the glow of twinkling lights at the Conservatory glasshouse, along with the holiday music to boost up your holiday joy.

The Holiday Train Show creator, Paul Busse , started the exhibition of the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden in 1992 and has been adding more exciting landmarks and trains every year since then. His current work can be viewed here .

This year the exhibit also includes the "Artist's Studio" as a part of the show. You will get an inside look at how the landmarks are constructed and see models in different stages of completion.

During the week when crowds are not at their peak, it will take approximately 30-45 minutes to walk through the Holiday Train Show galleries in the Conservatory. But once you have entered, feel free to linger as long as you like. During weekends and holidays you may experience an extended wait time before entering the exhibition.

Ticket entry is every 15 minutes starting from 10am. The last ticket entry is 45 minutes prior to the garden closing. It is strongly recommended that tickets be reserved in advance for the Holiday Train Show. The Holiday Train Show ticket is an "All-Garden" pass, which allow you to the entire Garden including the Conservatory, Ross Hall, Everett Children's Adventure Garden, and the Garden Tram tour. Choose between ticket with or without Thomas the Tang Engine show.

Garden hours are Tuesday - Sunday, 10am - 6pm. If you wish to avoid crowds, plan your visit in the afternoon during the week, Tuesday through Thursday. There is wheelchair, disabled and special needs assistance. If you are planning to visit with an elderly, there will be some chairs for them to sit while waiting to enter the exhibition.

During the week parking on the garden ground is $12, on weekend parking is $15. Parking in the new parking garage is $12 everyday the garden is open.

The Garden has its own Metro North station. It's clean, fast and convenient ( see Metro North Train schedule ). Also by subway, take the B, D, or 4 train to Bedford Park Blvd station. From the station take Bx 26 bus east to the Garden's Mosholu gate entrance, or walk eight blocks down the hill on Bedford Park Blvd to the end (approximately 20 minutes). Turn left onto Southern Blvd and walk one block to Mosholu gate entrance.

Mastercard priceless NY Promotion: purchase the tickets online to get all-garden access (does not include parking).
