Are the kids over going the movies and the shopping mall? Do they need something more energetic to entertain them? Why not try out the holiday ice skate camp at Ice Zoo in Alexandria?
Kids (big and small - and yes, even fussy teenagers!) will have a blast at these one-and-a-half-hour sessions, which include skate hire, a 30-minute group lesson and a long one-hour practice session, all for only $25 per person. (You can get further discounts for buying more sessions: purchase 5 sessions for $110 or purchase 10 sessions for $200).
Ice Zoo is a state of the art ice rink, located on Gardeners Road in Alexandria in Sydney's Eastern suburbs. Ice Zoo is run by Winter Olympian Liz Cain and her husband Peter (trivia: Liz and her brother are the only non-British couple to ever win the British Championships, and between the two of them they hold a lot of accolades, including performing as principal skaters with productions such as Torvill and Dean ice shows and Disney on Ice. Liz also made a TV appearance on the channel 9 show, Skating On Thin Ice).
The rink has a café overlooking the ice, perfect for mums and dads to enjoy a coffee and some chill out time while the children are in class. Or, if you're feeling energetic yourself, why not grab a pair of skates and join the kids on the ice? Skating prices start at just $13 (see prices on the website for costs).
When Classes run throughout the school holidays, every day from Monday through Friday and commence at 11am, finishing up at 12:30pm.
Getting There Car: There's plenty of parking on-site, and also untimed road parking along Gardeners Road, so driving is easy. Train: Ice Zoo is a ten-minute walk from Mascot Railway Station Bus: There are a number of buses which run along Gardener's Road – see Sydney Buses for route information. The 418 Burwood to Bondi bus stops along Gardener's Road near O'Riordan Street.
